One reason to have something framed is obvious – presentation. Framing at its best enhances the beauty of the object and also adds style to the room in which it is displayed. Great care is taken to choose a frame and matting that will complement the artwork without drawing attention away from it. It is also important that the frame fits into the style of the room that it’s in. The fact that framing makes art look better is one of the primary reasons people choose to have it done.

The less obvious, but perhaps most important reason for framing is preservation. Many environmental factors can cause wear and tear. Smoke, dust, sunlight, humidity, dirt, insects, and improper storage can all damage paper, textiles, paint, etc. Preservation framing and matting creates the perfect environment to store your precious things. UV blocking glass and acrylic offer protection from sunlight damage, mats buffered to a neutral pH not only look nice, but also create space between the item and the glass, protecting it from humidity and condensation, and the entire frame keeps dust, dirt, other airborne particles and insects from damaging your heirloom.
